HV Development Engineer – Automotive

• We are seeking an experienced, highly detail oriented, organized, development engineer in the field of Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV), Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV), Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) and or Battery packs (BP) with focus on the wire harness and connection systems as well as design and development of power distribution units and other associated system components.
• This person will play a major role in building up a new HV development area, source, implement and design test and processing equipment
• Act as Key person in HV harness design (wire routing/design , connector design(IP69K), application engineering, shielded wire, multi conductor shielded cables and unshielded wires)
• Establish structured, detailed development documentation to distribute individual application knowhow
• Design, write and conduct functional and validation testing for HV connection systems to industry and OEM specific standards
• Provide strong design capabilities with 2D and 3D CAD software
• Deeply engaged from concept design to prototype to serial production product line
• Work with vendors to arrange electrical testing: EMC/EMI and other related automotive testing
• Develop and evaluate alternative design approaches in regards to wire processing, connectivity, shield adaption, alternate materials (e.g. aluminum, shielding materials, insulation materials, plastics, etc.)
• Analyzes test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.
• Act as primary technical contact person for Global customers (Nafta, Europe and Asia) and support sales team with technical expertise (may require travel up to 30%)
• Assess new engineering projects for viability (design limitations, cost concerns, functionality and tradeoffs). Present these issues to the engineering team along with recommendations for resolution
• Ability to proactively identify and resolve engineering and manufacturing related issues and have a thorough understanding of product manufacturing processes.
• Conduct or participate in design review meetings.
• Assessing feasibility of build to print business opportunities including cost estimates
• Estimate material/fabrication costs for new products and processes – execute product /process development to cost targets and communicate cost vs. performance conflicts early in the design
• Work in alliance with automotive standards e.g. APQP, ISO, TS, PPAP, DFM, USCAR…
• Ability to work independently, resolve technical and manufacturing issues without detailed direction, and work as part of a multicultural team
• Ability to work within strict deadlines with full ownership of the individual assigned responsibility
• Able to travel internationally.
• English language is necessary. Secondary languages helpful (Spanish, German).

This position requires at least a bachelor’s degree with a min. of 3 year work experience.
