Information about the position

Job description, responsibilities and duties

Under the overall guidance of the Chief of Mission (CoM) in Bratislava and the direct supervision of the Protection Division (PxD) National Project Officer the incumbent will be responsible for coordination responsible for the coordination of IOM’s Migration Information Centre (MIC) migrant training programs including language Education and Cultural Orientation activities for migrants in Slovakia.

Responsibilites and Accountabilities:

1. Coordinate implementation of the MIC migrant training programs in all regions of Slovakia including monitoring further educational activities related to social and labour inclusion of migrants;
2. Develop migrant training plans with specific focus on the language skills, cultural orientation including implementation of inclusion programmes that include skill enhancement and capacity building;
3. Elaborate on the methodology for the migrant training modules, encompassing socio-cultural orientation, informational sessions, counselling courses/events titled "Welcome to Slovakia," along with the development of appropriate instructional materials.;
4. Oversee case management and provide guidance on additional outreach activities pertaining to migrant training;
5. Provide oversight in relation to upskilling, re-training and educational activities including overall coordination of the IOM Slovakia migrant training programs and inclusion;
6. Elaborate research reports and recommendations related to migrant training;
7. Monitor and update MIC website, including insertion of updates, newsletters, social media posts/blogs;
8. Prepare various visibility materials in form of presentations, photos, articles, short films or others;
9. Establish cooperation with local and regional institutions, employers, relevant governmental, nongovernmental entities as well as other international organisations and local NGOs on project activities;
10. Organize meetings, workshops and training sessions; prepare training materials and information materials for target group and participate in the delivering of migrant training and capacity building workshops;
11. Assist in the preparation of periodic and final reports to the donor, including filing and preparation of supporting documentation and in overall planning, coordination, implementation and monitoring of project activities;
12. Respond to complex information requests and inquiries; set up and maintain files/records;
13. Gather and archive data, information and supporting documentation necessary for the project implementation;
14. Provide direct supervision, guidance, and training to staff in the team;
15. Perform such other duties as may be assigned by Chief of Mission.

​​One Year Fixed Term Contract with possibility of extension - subject to funding

​General Staff (GVIII UN Salary Scale valid for the Slovak Republic since 1 Jan 2023). Step one of the salary scale corresponds to base salary 2,722.42 EUR per month (income is exempted from taxation).

​​​6 weeks of paid annual leave per year (2.5 days per completed month of service).
​​​24 days of paid sick leave per year (2 days per completed month of service).

EDUCATION
• Bachelor’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law or related fields from an accredited academic institution with five years of relevant professional experience
OR
• Completed High School degree from an accredited academic institution, with at least seven years of relevant working experience, preferably in similar roles.
EXPERIENCE
▪ Experience in language educational activities, capacity building, migrant training or similar field work;
▪ Experience in working with communities, local stakeholders, governments, civil society and the private sector;
▪ Experience in facilitating trainings;
▪ Experience in writing and editing of articles and reports;
▪ Experience in community outreach, cultural mediation or similar is an advantage;
▪ Experience in working with migrants, migration management, and international migration issues is an advantage;
▪ Experience in social, labour and migration law of the Slovak Republic and human rights law is an advantage.

SKILLS
• Strong interpersonal and public speaking skills with a commitment to provide respectful, culturally-competent communication, including an awareness and acceptance of cultural differences;
• Knowledge of diverse cultures and environments; and the skills to adapt communication skills to fit cultural context;

Languages
IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish.
REQUIRED
For this position, fluency in Slovak and English is required (oral and written).
DESIRABLE
Working knowledge of Russian/Ukrainian is desirable.
