Information about the position

Job description, responsibilities and duties

IH Bratislava requires an enthusiastic, DELTA or equivalent qualified Director of Studies/Assistant Director of Studies to join its academic team in July 2014. The position involves running the English department and teacher development programme and supervising and providing day-to-day academic support to teachers. Other duties include course planning and teaching, both regular and stand-by.
Duties will include:
- management of the teaching team (appr. 40 teachers, both full time and freelance)
- professional development of teachers: observations, feedback and appraisals
- assistance with lesson planning and class management
- curriculum development
- running teacher training sessions and courses
- orientating new teachers on the school procedures and supervising during their trial period
- academic management and development of English programme and projects
- writing syllabi and deciding on course books
- placement testing; organizing internal exams and assessment
- monitoring groups end of level dates and tests results
- ensuring that students are happy and dealing with their problems and being available to talk to students
- helping school admin with troubleshooting

Teacher training opportunities include delivering the IHBET, IHCAM and IH TKT Preparation Course, all of which have been offered by the school.

IH Bratislava became an open centre Cambridge English Language Assessment Exams in 2009, which opens opportunities for Cambridge English examining and for teacher training focusing on these exams.

Teaching at IH Bratislava takes place mainly in-companies, where both business and general English is taught. There are a number of general English school courses and a growing number of young learners’ courses taught at school or off-site as part of our Start Right programme for young learners at primary schools.

Working load will include teaching appr. 10-16 academic hours per week. Normal working week will be 40 clock hours Monday-Friday.
