Job description, responsibilities and duties

Nature and aim of the position
Global Blue (“GB”, “We”, “Our”) is a multinational corporation operating in 40+ countries with more than 30 years of experience in the financial services industry focussing on providing a variety of payment-related services to travellers, government agencies, merchants (270,000+), third party payments processors, airport operators and other travel-related service providers. We operate hundreds of existing business applications primarily from our dual Vienna, Austria data centres, presently concentrated within the Microsoft technology stack. We are seeking two technology architects capable of:
(i) supporting the definition and design of enterprise-wide services, utilities, and major common database models;
(ii) defining the steady but gradual reengineering plans to migrate from our existing applications and services to the evolving future state, and; (iii) supporting our existing nine engineering teams located in 3 global development sites to deliver their respective application solutions within the framework of the end-to-end Global Blue architecture.

Main duties and responsibilities
- Work within a small team of 4-5 peer architects/designers/subject-matter-experts focusing on the definition, design and rollout of common services (SOA), major shared databases (transactional, operational and business intelligence), messaging and transaction processing standards and integration (EAI), the enterprise service bus (“ESB”), and other specific (typically Microsoft-centric) utilities and support software
- Responsible to learn/understand the “as is” suite of Global Blue applications and existing enterprise-wide utilities and services in order to understand the starting point of our evolving architecture and transformative engineering efforts while gradually increasing the level of commonality and standardization across the engineering units
- Working closely with the Infrastructure and Operations (“I&O”) division responsible for the production operation of our Vienna data centres, support the testing, deployment and operation of end-to-end (“E2E”) application utilities, services, frameworks and databases as they support the individual applications and engineering units
Participate as an invited member in specific agile development meetings and workshops as required by the responsible product manager and/or technical lead (e.g. design sessions, backlog and sprint planning, sprint retrospectives, etc.), with a consistent focus on and participation with the engineering unit(s) responsible for the development and deployment of the EA-defined end-to-end services and databases
- Work closely and cooperatively with each engineering unit to ensure that the necessary enterprise standards and services are gradually introduced within each unit’s agile development methodology and prioritized sprint deliverables. Focus most closely with the lead developer in each engineering unit to ensure that unit-specific solution/application architecture is appropriate and supportive of the end-to-end enterprise architecture and standards.
- Serve as the subject-matter-expert in selective EA components (e.g. data modeller/expert in corporate-wide databases (e.g. merchant, ODS, traveller), BizTalk ESB, common integration and messaging services, etc.)
- Work with the VP, EA to ensure that all key corporate initiatives and priorities are properly defined, designed, and introduced into the engineering unit backlogs with proper coordination and corporate oversight

Key competencies
Deep knowledge and continuous hands-on experience in large-scale software (re)engineering (bespoke software development), enterprise services design and implementation, application solutions architecture, database modelling, and legacy platform migration / integration (predominantly based on past and present Microsoft technologies, frameworks and products)
Direct application design and bespoke software development experience
Proven experience in designing and supporting high-availability, mission-critical transaction processing systems
Expert knowledge on web service and XML technologies (e.g., SOAP, WSDL, XML, XSD, XPath, XQuery, XSLT, WS-Security)
Hands-on working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server databases and related tools (Integration Services, Reporting Services, etc.)
Hands-on working experience with a message service bus (e.g. BizTalk, MSMQ), ETL services (SSIS or other), and managed file transfer related support
Hands-on working experience with Microsoft Windows Server and related engineering frameworks and tools (.NET, WCF, C# development, etc.
Proficient English language written and verbal communication skills appropriate for a virtualized, geographically dispersed IT organization

Preferable skills and competencies
Proven track record of successful delivery of cross-functional, multi-year business development and technology transformation / legacy system (re)engineering projects
Architectural design and engineering experience in varied, non-Microsoft technology solutions, databases and frameworks (e.g. Java / J2EE, Oracle or other DBMS, etc.)
Experience with back office processing platforms and transaction-based software applications within payments, financial services, or retail domains
Application design and development experience within the Payment Card Industry with relevant experience related to the applicable Data Security Standards (“PCI-DSS”)
Multi-national / multi-language work experience

Education and qualifications
University graduate / bachelor’s degree in technology-related field (e.g. computer science, MIS, etc.)
Strong English language skills (oral and written) in routine, technology-related work settings. Additional proficiency in other languages is a strong plus.
Rich set of Microsoft-related formal training classes and/or certifications (e.g. .NET, C#, SQL Server, BizTalk, WCF, MSMQ, Windows Services, etc.), supplemented by demonstrable on-the-job training and utilization

Experience
5+ years of hands-on design and development within the Microsoft stack (e.g. .NET, C#, SQL Server, BizTalk, WCF, MSMQ, Windows services/utilities, etc.)
5+ years of technology work experience within applications / solutions design and software development
Hands-on experience within agile software development methodologies in a multi-division processing company (international experience a strong plus)
Payments industry experience a strong plus (credit card, merchant processing, banking, financial services, etc.)
