Job description, responsibilities and duties
The project and the challenge
Nikonians.org is a well-established 15 years old portal, not only here to stay, but expanding with new, modern technologies. As with any large site, there is continuous need to improve existing functionality and to create new cool components to ensure better usability while maintaining the growth. This guarantee long-term work on the portal, which needs to be endlessly ‘beautified’, and potentially it may become your baby as well. Nikonians is global and is based in Germany and USA while being maintained from Slovakia by enprovia s.r.o.
The team and the working environment:
We are looking for somebody who would take on this long-term challenge, who enjoys seeing improvements take place and has a vision of what can be done in the next steps to make the portal even more attractive (technology wise, design and function). You will be working directly with the founder of Nikonians, Mr. Bo Stahlbrandt and have the possibility to influence every decision regarding the development of it. Your colleagues are based in many global places and have been on the project since the beginning of the portal, so we are looking for a colleague who will join us and stay with us for the long run.

• We are small team, working independently in a stress free environment
• We are working effectively and overtime is very rare
• We don’t like wasting our time, what we do has a meaning
• We believe in a never ending future of this project and that keeps us going

Our ideal candidate should:
• Have a strong background in PHP development
• Know one or more frameworks, such as Zend
• Be fluent in jQuery
• Know HTML, CSS and JavaScript inside out
• Have in-depth knowledge of MySQL and be smart about queries
• Have experience with building large web sites
• Love to work in an agile, team oriented environment, preferably having Scrum experience
• Enjoy designing and developing robust components and services
• Understand what User Experience means and enjoy working closely with good UI designers to deliver a great a UX
• Enjoy documenting the work using tools like Jira and Alfresco
• Write and speak English
• Have at least basic Linux experience
