Job description, responsibilities and duties

The Economic and Commercial Affairs Officer is primarily responsible for providing people, businesses and institutions in The Netherlands with economic and commercial information. The officer takes decisions on the information to be provided and requests to be put to experts to provide additional information. He/she organizes and participates in economic activities such as seminars and trade missions. The Economic and Commercial Affairs Officer is part of the policy team of the Embassy and is responsible for answering trade requests, for handling a budget for Dutch business promotion activities and for reporting on macro-economic and monetary trends in the Slovak Republic. In view of the upcoming EU Presidency of the Netherlands as well as the Slovak Republic in 2016, reporting on EU- Council positions will be required as well. The Economic Affairs Officer is accountable to the head of the policy department/the deputy Head of Mission.

University education (Master's degree)

Language skills

Slovak - Proficiency (C2) and English - Upper intermediate (B2) and Dutch - Beginner (A1)

Personality requirements and skills

You will be working in a small team (the embassy consists in total of 9 staff members), therefore we are looking for a real team player, who is open and flexible but is equally able to work independently and has excellent networking skills. You will be able to switch easily from macro-economic analyses to detailed technical trade requests or specific project logistics.

Skills required:
• Knowledge of macro-economic policies, Slovak government policies and EU-affairs.
• Skill in analyzing questions and answering them orally and in writing (an English writing skills test will be part of the selection procedure).
