Operation Engineer - Cloud

Our client is looking for talented and sharp Operations Engineers to work in the Service Operations Center. You'll be helping to maintain the core infrastructure underpinning a highly complex platform while working with customers to answer their questions and solve their problems. You need to be self-motivated, work in a team environment, and able to work with minimal supervision. Be prepared to learn new skills and improve existing ones, and approach tasks with a "can do" attitude.

Responsibilities:

• Using interactive tools including chat, forums, email, monitoring and other web based social media to exceed customer expectations.
• Responding to monitoring alerts and ticketing system queue.
• Ability to interact with all levels of customers and escalate when appropriate.
• Taking proactive and reactive action to maintain stability of production, development, and testing environments.
• Working across teams (System Engineering, Support, Networking) to troubleshoot HW/SW issues
• Communicating, resolving, and escalating issues as defined by internal procedures and practices.
• Monitoring and troubleshooting software including, but not limited to Operating Systems (Ubuntu, MS Windows, CentOS), Openstack, ESX, security software, Chef, and other software needed to run the HPE Helion Cloud operational and customer environment and development and test environments.
• Creating and maintaining internal software and automation tools.
• Creating and updating written procedures and training materials.
• Assisting in on-boarding contractors and employees.
• Available to support 24x7 operations, including after hours call out. Travel if needed.

Requirements:

• Self-starter with 3-5 year’s prior experience working in a large scale IT environment.
• Thorough understanding of the fundamentals of Servers, IT Systems, and Networking (knowledge of HPE products a plus).
• Excellent demonstrable systems and networking investigative and troubleshooting skills.
• Experienced System Admin skillset with Linux and Network devices (Windows a plus) including common protocols/software such as DNS, DHCP, NTP, NFS, SMTP, HTTP, syslog, SSH.
• Skilled with scripting and automation languages preference given to: Ruby, Python, REST APIs, shell.
• Experience with virtualization (ESX, KVM).
• OpenStack end user and operations knowledge preferred.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Organizational skills and attention to detail are critical.
• Fluent in English.
