Software Engineer – Web-based User Interface

Cisco Prague is expanding its Threat Defense team that takes the main role in development of new cloud backed security products. The scope of the projects covers domain of Network Behaviour Analysis and the results are then used for fighting against sophisticated attacks in today’s cyberspace.

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate to join the team. You will be working in a very dynamic environment, where every new idea is welcome and is considered. We work in the agile way, focused on deliverables, making prototypes instead of detailed design documents. We believe quality is much more important than quantity. We encourage our engineers to take well-calculated risks.

After joining the team, you will be responsible for design, implementation and testing of the web user interface that connects to java backend. You should have some experience developing Java/HTML5/Javascript applications and using related libraries. However, we appreciate the willingness to quickly learn new technologies more than a specific knowledge.

As the applications we develop are cloud based, we not only write the code, but also actually run it. The applications process terabytes of network traffic data and the team is responsible for keeping it alive. Therefore, we expect you to follow best engineering and administration practices to make sure our customers get the best experience they can. Also the knowledge about operating systems, networking and databases is required.

You will be in daily touch with remote teams based in other European countries or in the US, using your communication skills to interact with other developers, discuss the requirements and interfaces.


Skills Required

• Experience with JavaScript (core and frameworks, jQuery as a minimum)
• Experience building Ajax applications
• Knowledge in Web technologies (HTML 5, CSS 3 as a minimum)
• Experience with Spring Framework (IoC, dependency injection) and its ecosystem (Spring MVC as a must)
• Server and Client Side template engines knowledge (one of JSP, JSF, Thymeleaf, Mustache)
• Basic SQL knowledge
• Maven
• Empathy into the end user

Additional Skills

• Dojo Framework is a plus
• Knowledge about web browser differences is a plus
• Spring Data or Spring Security is a plus
• Hibernate/JPA
• NoSQL database experience as a plus
• Experience with UI testing (jasmine, karma), end-to-end testing, stress testing
• Experience with application servers, PaaS knowledge as a plus
