Description
Introduction
Automation and electrical Technician in the Technology Department (TE), Cryogenics Group (CRG), Control Electricity Section (CE).
You will join the Cryogenic Group ( CRG Group ) which is responsible for the design, construction, operation & maintenance of cryogenic systems including:
Helium and Nitrogen refrigerators for accelerators, detectors and test facilities.
Argon and Krypton cryogenic electromagnetic calorimeters.
Cryogenic transfer line and current leads for the LHC superconducting magnets.
Within the CRG group, the Control and Electricity (CE) Section is responsible for providing the controls and the electrical support for the cryogenic equipment. Control systems include:
Programmable logic controllers that pilot various cryogenic equipment such as electrical motor for helium compressors, turbines, valves and electrical heater.
Industrial instrumentation for various signals such as pressure, temperature, flow transmitter and level gauges.
Several electrical low tension cabinets installed all over CERN.
An extensive and distributed SCADA system for local and remote supervision.
A collaborative direct support to the cryogenics operators (technicians and engineers) for fault diagnostic and optimization of thermos-dynamical process.
Functions
As an automation and electrical technician, you will join a multidisciplinary team responsible for the support to the operation, design and construction of the LV (24 to 400V) electrical and process-control equipment dedicated to the CERN cryogenic system. In particular, after an initial period of training, you will:
Participate in the electrical and control projects (hardware and software upgrade) and support for the cryogenic equipment.
Develop, construct, install and commission electrical and process control systems for large cryogenic plants.
Organize consolidations, repairs and emergency fault detection, and intervene as member of a stand-by duty team.
Manage the corresponding technical documentation.

We offer a limited-duration contract for a period of 5 years. Limited-duration contracts shall terminate by default on their date of expiry. Subject to certain conditions, holders of limited-duration contracts may apply for an indefinite position.

Configuration and programming of PLC and fieldbus system / Programming of PLCs.
Installation, maintenance & operation of Control systems.
Electro-mechanical design: use of schematics design systems (see electrical for example).
Installation & dismantling of electro-mechanical equipment.
Commissioning & maintenance of electro-mechanical equipment.
The behavioural competencies required for this post are:
Demonstrating flexibility: demonstrating a willingness to accept changing circumstances; supporting initiatives for change; adapting quickly and resourcefully to shifting priorities and requirements.
