Job description, responsibilities and duties

Functions

As an Applied Physicist or Engineer in the Beam Loss section, your task will be to simulate, design, build, install and commission beam profile and loss monitoring systems in all of CERN's accelerators.

Your main activities will consist of:


Simulating the interaction of particle beams with matter.

Designing detectors for beam loss and profile monitoring.

Designing the acquisition electronics and mechanics for these systems.

Constructing, installing and commissioning these detectors.

Leading small projects with responsibility for budget, planning and the supervision of students.

Requirements for the employee

Candidates with education suit the position

University education (Master's degree)
Postgraduate (Doctorate)

Language skills

English - Intermediate (B1)

Personality requirements and skills

Qualification required

Master's degree in the field of Physics or engineering, or equivalent -preferably a PhD.

The experience required is:


Demonstrated experience in the field of particle beam detector design.


The technical competencies required are:


Solid-state based particle detection technologies.

Optical particle detection technologies.

Gas based particle detection technologies.

Detector design, construction, testing and operation.

Detector performance simulation and analysis.

Simulation of radiation environments.


The behavioural competencies required for this post are:
