Job description, responsibilities and duties

Súkromná spojená škola British Int.School Bratislava is looking for a Higher Level Teaching Assistant to cover classes during short term absences of staff, to support staff and undertake duties as directed by the Deputy Head of Primary, to teach small groups of students under the direction of the class teacher or Learning support Teacher, to teach Slovak Studies with the support of a class teacher.
Qualification and experience is desirable, although enthusiasm, independence, flexibility, reliability and willingness to learn are more important. Good English essential.

Cover Classes
• Read and follow plans provided by the teacher.
• Ensure lessons are properly resourced, according to the plans provided by the teacher.
• Ask for help if plans are not clear or complete.
• Liaise with other year group teachers where appropriate.
• Maintain pace to the lesson and support students in the completion of tasks.
• Follow a simple structure of teaching input, differentiated tasks, plenary.
• Ensure that students present their work in adherence to school standards described in the Teaching and Learning Policy.
• Set high expectations for pupils’ behaviour, establishing and maintaining a good behaviour management through positive reinforcement of good behaviour and good working relationships.
• Give feedback to the teacher after completing the lesson.
Undertake duties as directed by the Deputy Head of Primary
• Lead after-school Enrichment activities as required.
• Undertake playtime duties as required.
• Support teachers or year group teams with operational and administrative tasks as directed by the Deputy Head teacher.
• Take responsibility for an operational aspect of the school as directed by the Deputy Head teacher (e.g. stock cupboard, resources room, lost property).
• Participate in weekly meetings with the line manager.
• Participate in year group planning meetings when necessary.
• Support students during swimming sessions .
• Be involved, under the guidance of their teachers, with outside agencies such as speech therapists, or educational psychologists. This involvement can range from helping with the administrative arrangements to assisting pupils perform tasks set by the specialist.
• Under the direction of the class teacher be a channel of communication to provide necessary translation for parents for whom English is an additional language.

Teach small groups of pupils as directed
• Complete group interventions as directed, following objectives provided.
• Establish positive working relationships with students.
• Prepare for group interventions and track pupil progress in accordance with the Learning Support Policy.
• Provide feedback to students and Learning Support teacher or class teacher as necessary.
• Be responsible for making up lost group sessions where possible.
• Complete paperwork as required.
Teach Slovak Studies
• Lead our Slovak Studies program as directed by the Deputy Head of Primary and being supported by a class teacher.
• Develop the Slovak Studies Curriculum as necessary with the support of the teachers.
• Use local knowledge to enhance the provision of Slovak Studies where appropriate.
• Give feedback to teachers as to how the program is being received by students.
