Job description, responsibilities and duties

The British Embassy in Bratislava is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for an Economic, Energy and Climate Change Officer.

The main responsibilities of the position are as follows, although the job holder will be required to take on other tasks and roles as required and as directed by the Head of Political Section:

· To monitor, report, influence and lobby in support of UK’s prosperity in the area of economy, energy, climate change and environment;

-To monitor Slovakia’s macroeconomic indicators and policy initiatives of relevant ministries;

-To follow and report on developments in bilateral trade between Slovakia and the UK;

-To follow and analyze developments in the Central European energy security landscape;

· To identify and pursue opportunities to strengthen bilateral relationship between UK and Slovakia ;

· To develop high-level contacts with key stakeholders in relevant Government institutions, think-tanks, NGOs, trade associations and the business community, both in Slovakia and the UK;

· To coordinate the Embassy’s commercial diplomacy work, cooperate with colleagues from the UK Department for International Trade and assist them in identifying commercial opportunities;

· To collaborate effectively with policy colleagues across the central European region and in the UK on policy and public diplomacy events and strategic campaigns;

· To develop and manage programmes for inward and outward visits;

Essential qualifications and experience

University education or Post Graduate;
Government affairs/lobbying and policy making experience;
Strong analytical ability;
Some background in economic, energy and environment issues, preferably within an EU context;
Ability to develop and maintain contacts in both the public and private sectors;
Positive, proactive attitude and ability to work both independently and in team;
Good communication and interpersonal skills;
Excellent command of spoken and written English and Slovak language;
Excellent knowledge of MS Office packages.

Desirable qualifications and experience

Educational Specialization in Economic, Energy and Climate Change.

This is a full-time position, 36.5 hours per week.

This is a fixed term contract of 1 year with a possibility to be extended. This contract has a probation period of three months.

The monthly salary for this position is € 1800,00 gross, payable 13 times a year.

The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Slovakia are subject to terms and conditions of service according to Slovak Labour Law.
