Job description, responsibilities and duties

The British Embassy in Bratislava is looking for a qualified Chef to work at the Residence to cook and supervise all events for the Ambassadorial Residence as well as manage the general running of the building. The person will oversee the smooth running of the Residence and act as the main contact point for all activities.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Chef to work for a diplomatic organisation, preparing high quality food for special guests including Ministers and Ambassadors, at internal and external events. The Chef will be based at the Residence of the British Ambassador to Slovakia, where they will oversee all catering at the house, as well as events and general running of the household. Functions range from large dinners for up to 20 guests, smaller more intimate meals, cocktail events and the Queen’s Birthday Party (for up to 600 guests).

The person should have experience in catering for such functions, using fresh produce to create high quality meals that demonstrate to guests the best of modern and innovative British and international cuisine. You will have good communication skills and be able to liaise and keep informed the numerous stakeholders of the property.

Main Duties / Responsibilities
•Coordination of Residence calendar to schedule events as well as technical works;
•Cook and plan menus for official events and special requirements following discussion with the hosts;
•Cook and plan menus for day to day requirements (lunches and dinners);
•Maintain files of past menus;
•Line management of the Residence maid;
•Supervision of Residence maintenance works and recommendations of maintenance as required;
•Coordination and supervision of external catering staff;
•Grocery food purchases as necessary, maintaining and providing full accounting/receipts and assisting with record keeping (for budgetary purposes);
•Stock registry;
•Cleaning and maintenance of the kitchen equipment to the highest of standards;
•Responsibility for the inventory in the Residence kitchen and making recommendations for its development;
•Cooperation with Embassy staff on event requirements including liaison with the Ambassador’s assistant.

Employee perks, benefits

This is a full-time position of 5 working days, 40 hours net per week. Working hours are flexible and the position is entitled to overtime for extra hours worked. Uniforms are provided. The Embassy is not able to assist with any visas or sponsorship arrangements or cover any costs connected with relocation.
The successful candidate will be subject to professional background and security clearance. The successful candidate must have pre-existing work authorisation for Slovakia in order to apply.
The monthly salary for this position is 1,400 Euros paid 13 times a year. Meal allowance and uniforms provided. An initial 12 month contract will be issued with the intention for this to become a permanent position.
Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Slovakia are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Slovak employment law.

•Extensive experience in professional catering;
•Excellent customer service skills with solid communication skills to persons at all levels;
•Excellent interpersonal and team-working skills and be able to work collaboratively with the Ambassador and other residents of the household as well as staff members;
•Able to work accurately on own initiative with minimal direction or supervision;
•Strong organisational skills;
•Demonstrate initiative and flexibility;
•Computer skills;
•A good command of Slovak and English is required;
•Drivers licence would be beneficial for purchasing good and or stocks.
