Job description, responsibilities and duties

The Advanced Technical Support (ATS) IDC Cloud Services Team provides Tier3 network support for technology insertion and escalations IDC, Cloud, Netbond and vNAT services. The candidate will coordinate closely with vendors such as Cisco and Juniper to resolve production problems and ensure product quality.

The candidate will receive escalations from ATS management and the NRCs and will be responsible for the resolution of complex customer impacting network outages. The candidate would additionally interface with the Tier2 teams and vendors to define root cause for difficult to resolve or chronic problems in the network. These problems will be extremely complex in scope requiring analysis of situations or data and requiring in-depth evaluation covering all aspects of IP based networking.

The candidate will provide guidance and leadership to the team members and serves as a technical knowledge source within the organization. Additionally, the candidate will make major contributions that have direct impact on the quality of service provided to customers.

The work scope also involves deep understanding in the IP arena, Statistical and analytical skills in dissecting complex and stressful Service Provider issues requiring novel concepts and approaches to understand the Root cause. Working as the Tech Specialist, Systems Engineering, the candidate will perform technical project work of a moderate scope within a larger technical project that is within a specific technology discipline. To attain this technical level, the candidate will be required to have or be capable of exhibiting contributions in specific technical areas. Your contribution shall be primarily internal to the company.

The candidate will work closely with the LABS organization to insert hardware and software configurations for new network elements and delivers MOPs (Methods of Procedures) to shown details that will be needed for implementation. As the Tech Specialist, Systems Engineering, you will generally be recognized in the company as a subject matter expert within a specific area. In addition, you should have worked or be capable of working independently on projects of moderate complexity, managing technical issues. The Tech Specialist, Systems Engineering position will require strong candidates who must be independent thinkers who will come up with ideas, not just be given ideas.

Candidates must be able to work collaboratively within a small research group as well as with other teams such as Product Management, Network Engineers and Service Managers.

Responsible for support of Internet route reflectors and iBGP scale, performance; Inter-AS eBGP between regions; eBGP to customers on edge routers - BGP routing policy; Inter-region ASBR; Inter-AS MP-eBGP Option c between regions; Inter-AS end-to-end performance; Network Security DDOS, etc., including core requirements; MIS/DIA feature support (e.g. MARO, load sharing, QoS, multicast, etc.); PNT feature support; TTM and custom configurations; Cable customer support contracts;
Software upgraded planning - edge platforms. In addition, desirable candidates will have strong leadership, administrative skills, and experience in the following areas; Technical Support, Vendor Negotiation, Operations, Test & Development, Product Management, and Executive Escalations.

  • experience in Data Networking.
  • Candidate must have Expert or advanced level experience with the following:
  • F5 L4-L7 Load balancer
  • Juniper M320/T640/MX960, CISCO CRS, GSR, and 7600
  • JUNOS, Cisco IOS and IOS XR
  • Cisco route policy and RPL, JUNOS route policy and firewall filters
  • Ethernet, Frame-relay, ATM, PPP, MLPPP, MLFR, BFD etc.
  • Multicast, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, LDP, RSVP etc.
  • IPV6 Deployment and Carrier Grade NAT: 6RD/NAT44/NAT64
  • Network Security ACLs/FirewallsDDOS mitigation etc.
  • IPSEC/ GRE/L2TP tunneling
  • MIS/DIA/PNT feature support (e.g. MARO, load sharing, HSRP, MPLS VPNs, QoS, CoS, multicast, etc)
  • Scripting languages and tools UNIX/LINUX/ SHELL/PERL/EXPECT/
  • Successful candidates must have a minimum of 4 years experience in data networking and be available for 7x24x365 On-Call Support.
  • Desired Degrees/Majors/Accreditations/Skills: CCIP, CCIE in Service provider or equivalent.

Desired Skills:
• Bachelors in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science or Technology Equivalent:Bc + 4 yrs relevant experience in Data Networking.
