Job description, responsibilities and duties

REQUIREMENTS

  • Good knowledge of ArcGIS/ QGIS/ R for geospatial data analysis (highly desirable)
  • Good knowledge of scripting languages (e.g. Python, Matlab, R) (highly desirable)
  • Strong data management and processing skills and knowledge of databases (e.g. MS SQL Server)
  • Knowledge and practical experience in the field of engineering seismology & earthquake engineering will be an advantage
  • Appropriate educational background: an MSc/Postgraduate Degree or equivalent industry experience
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and other MS Office apps
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written English. Other languages are also welcome
  • An understanding of the insurance / reinsurance business will be an advantage

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

MAIN ROLE: development of earthquake catastrophe models for insurance/reinsurance purposes
  • Leading role in development of exposure component in the earthquake catastrophe models
  • Involvement in development of other components such as hazard and vulnerability. This encompasses processing, analysing and preparing source and hazard data and damage data or vulnerability methodology to allocate to an asset the likelihood of being affected by an earthquake
  • Take active role in testing of the earthquake models in accordance with the existing testing procedures
  • To manage entire model development projects, i.e. candidate needs to have managerial skills
  • To coordinate cooperation with external academic/research partners, this may need travelling abroad
  • To communicate and present intermediate and final results to other Aon Benfield departments such as cat management team, brokers etc., candidate needs to have excellent communication skills
  • To deliver external presentation to clients, at conferences, etc.
  • To bring innovation while understanding the requirements/limitations of the practices of the team
  • To be part of the development team and be able to coordinate tasks with other members
  • To collaborate with other team members from different offices worldwide
  • To use Aon Benfield in-house software packages
