Policy Officer, Amcham Slovakia

Coordinate policy/advocacy activities

• Policy Networking: liaising with Slovak government officials, parliamentarians, state authorities, EU institutions, MEPs, and other relevant stakeholders; preparing VIP lists for individual AmCham events; providing ideas/advice for development of personal contacts and assisting the Executive Director with access to all relevant Slovak government and EU-level decision-makers; preparing talking points for AmCham meetings with high-level public officials

• Monitoring and Issue Identification: monitoring of Slovak and EU legislation which impacts business – daily monitoring of all relevant media and information sources with focus on issues relevant to business, and subsequent reporting to the Policy Team; preparation of the regular bi-weekly AmCham Legislative and Policy Update; identifying issues of interest to AmCham members (both proactive and reactive approach); coordinating the necessary membership and Board support (together with two other members of the Policy Team)

• Assisting with organization of AmCham policy-related Events: proposing topics, outlines and points for discussion, liaising with the speakers, co-drafting background materials for AmCham representatives

• Coordinating the work of AmCham Committees and Task Forces: liaising with relevant member companies, preparation of agendas and minutes, preparation of background materials, proposing and inviting experts and speakers, follow-up actions (together with two other members of the Policy Team)

• Developing lobbying strategies and advocacy plans, including selection of appropriate lobbying tools, target audience, timeframes and actions (together with two other members of the Policy Team as well as AmCham members and experts)

• Formulating and coordinating AmCham Policy Briefs and Position Papers (together with the Policy Team as well as AmCham members and various experts)

• Preparation of policy-related Press Releases and statements for the media on various policy issues; planning of media coverage of AmCham’s policy activities; coordination and execution of AmCham’s policy-related PR
• Connection magazine: overseeing policy-related content

• External communication and promotion of AmCham activities: PR of various AmCham events; preparation of Press Conferences and new PR-focused events; preparation of promotional materials; ad hoc media partnerships; preparing and sending out Press Releases, invitations for journalists and Press Packages; monitoring of AmCham‘s media coverage; arranging of and preparing background for media interviews with the Executive Director; preparation of articles for relevant media

• Media relations: maintaining the database of media contacts; frequent communication with journalists; preparation of media barter agreements (Bratislava Leaders Magazine, SITA, Slovak Spectator and others)

The American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) was founded in 1993 in Bratislava as an independent and self funded organization financed exclusively through the contributions of its members. In September 2003 a new branch of AmCham was opened in Košice to help foster economic development in the Eastern Slovak region.
